Alchemy with Marichen

I find myself in a very philosophical and reflective mood, pondering the meaning of “Wisdom” – both in life and in leadership. My recent trip to Rwanda brought me new insight in this regard.

I have been asking the leaders I'm working with questions like:

• “How does a wise leader behave?”
• “When will it be time for us to embody wisdom as leaders?”
• “What is the impact of our behaviour on our teams and the broader communities in which we work?”, etc.

We've had some interesting conversations as a result!

GORILLAS, CRANES... AND THE NEED FOR LEADERSHIP:

I visited Rwanda to see some of the incredible crane conservation projects conducted by a valued client, The International Crane Foundation. I was inspired by their energy, vision and determination. Their collaboration with government and impacted communities ensures that the project thrives. In about 10 years, the crane population has grown from 200 cranes to over 1000 cranes. The surrounding communities are self-sustaining to further help preserve our precious wildlife for future generations.

I also visited the Susa family of gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park - a life changing experience!

Being with these magnificent animals in their natural habitat, rendered me speechless, tearful, humbled, yet heartful. The tireless, pioneering work of American primatologist, Dian Fossey, saved the gorillas from extinction (paying with her life). Consider her lovely quote: “When you realize the value of all life, you dwell less on what is past and concentrate on the preservation of the future”.

This helped clarify for me that in our presently tumultuous world, the call for wise leadership is a strong and powerful one. To stand up, collaborate, communicate and make a difference, wherever we find ourselves... Who will work with me to do so?

As Albert Einstein said: “Wisdom is not a product of schooling, but of a lifelong attempt to acquire it”.

WISDOM ~ LEADERSHIP ~ HEART

Wisdom is a lifetime quest, acquired through reflection, assessment and adjustment.

It is vital for leaders to work alongside teams towards a collective vision, constantly adjusting for better results.

When this is done WITH HEART, the impact is felt immediately and lastingly. I invite you on the journey of unbecoming everything that isn’t really you, so you can authentically, wisely, be who you were meant to be in the first place: a leader making a difference!
