A huge shout out to Takealot for their amazing partnership with CANSA in April, Testicular Cancer Awareness month, reminding lucky recipients of modified Takealot packages, across the country, to take as much care of their own package as their Takealot package.

Thousands of specially modified Takealot boxes were delivered with a small, strategically placed lump designed to disrupt the unboxing moment and prompt men to perform testicular self-checks.

Inside these packages an educational insert explained the unusual lump on the box with step-by-step self-check instructions. The insert also directed customers to CANSA’s landing page about testicular cancer for information and resources.

Testicular cancer most commonly affects men aged 15-49. If detected early there is a high chance of treatment being successful, so it makes good sense for teenage and adult males to do regular self-checks to promote early detection.

Encourage conversations at home about the importance of knowing your own body, regular health check-ups and cancer screening!

Your donations enable free services, for example, CANSA Tele and Virtual counselling in most SA languages by trained counsellors, support groups (face-to-face; WhatsApp and FBK); guidance from our Clinical Nurses regarding coping with the side effects of cancer, cancer treatment, dietary tips, stoma care and pain management – enquire at info@cansa.org.za; our Advocacy department assists patients experiencing stock shortages, delays in screening and cancer treatment, and lack of access to appropriate pain management medications; transport to and from cancer treatment centres is provided to our cancer patients staying at CANSA Care Homes, who would otherwise live too far away to receive treatment. Children and teens with cancer and their parents / guardians stay at our CANSA TLC Lodges for free during treatment. Our two TLC wig banks for children / teens provide free wigs to those in need.
